West Bengal Delegation Profile to Italy
1. Mr. Rajiva Sinha, I.A.S – ACS, MSME & Textiles: A Masters in Geology, joined Indian Administrative Service in 1986. During about 30 years of his professional career has worked in the areas of poverty reduction and improving livelihood of economically weaker population, urban infrastructure & environment, food processing and small & medium industries. He has worked with UNICEF for seven years. Mr. Sinha is serving as Additional Chief Secretary Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Textiles Department, Government of West Bengal since January 2013. The MSME sector in West Bengal has seen tremendous growth during this period with investments in excess of USD 20 billion in the sector in 3 years. More than 300 industrial clusters have been promoted by the Department during this period. A Sector Leadership project covering 10 industry sectors of West Bengal has been launched in 2016 targeting USD 60 billion turnover by 2020. He has been instrumental in creating a businessfriendly eco-system in the state with special focus on ease of doing business. Mandated to promote micro enterprises, the Department has collaborated with UNESCO for preserving and promoting Bengal handicrafts and culture involving 18000 artisans. The Biswa Bangla project of the Department has been launched two years back wherein 8 Biswa Bangla stores have been set up showcasing, promoting and marketing all heritage and traditional products of West Bengal under one umbrella brand. 2. Mr. Umesh Chowdhury, Managing Director, Titagarh Wagons Ltd, has been on the Board of the Company since incorporation. He was later appointed as the Whole time Director on July 1 2002, and Managing Director on September 5, 2002. He was subsequently reappointed as the Managing Director by the Board on June 21, 2007 for a period of five years with effect from July 1, 2007. Mr. Chowdhury holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and has attended one module of the Owner/ President’s Management Programme of Harvard Business School, Boston, USA. He is actively involved in the day to day operations and management of the Company. Under his able leadership, Titagarh Wagons Limited, one of the leading private sector wagon manufacturers in India, aspires to be a leader as a manufacturer of heavy engineering equipment and a world-class service provider for the infrastructure sector and to be known as a dependable and preferred partner for growth in line with a national perspective plan. 3. Mr. Ramesh Juneja, Regional Chairman, CLE & Director of JC International Ltd., is a Kolkata based major manufacturer, supplier and exporter of leather jackets, leather pants/ shorts, cow leather, ladies handbags, wallets and other leather accessories. Mr. Juneja is also the Chairperson Council for Leather Exports in the Eastern Region of the
country and is working towards developing the leather sector in the Eastern part of the country and enhancing the country’s share in the global leather trade. 4. Mr. RK Chhajer is the Managing Director of Vikrant Forge Ltd. (VFL), the leading open die forge shop in India. A flagship company of the Smithy Group, Vikrant Forge Ltd commenced forging production in 1992 and is currently being managed by 200 people with 50 engineers under the guidance of Mr. Chhajer. The company is also the recipient of Engineering Export Promotion Council award in 2011-12 for registering unprecedented growth in exports turnover. Focusing on the philosophy of forging longterm ties with customers, VFL, under the leadership of Mr. Chhajer, emphasises on ‘Quality first’, ‘Customer first’, and ‘Technology first’ as the three pillars of the company. 5. Mr. Biswanath Bhattacharya is the President of Federation of Small and Medium Industries (FOSMI), West Bengal recognized as a premier Federation for the MSME sector by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India as well as the State Government. FOSMI’s range of Services to its members include the vitally important consultancy services rendered by its professionally qualified consultants on a wide range of subjects ranging from preparation of bankable project reports for starting business through to marketing, export, Central Excise, Service Tax, VAT, Factories Act, Labour Laws etc. to name just a few. All the consultancy/ advice is given free of charge to its members. Mr. Bhattacharya is also the owner of Auropol India Pvt. Ltd., a major manufacturer of rubber chemical, resins, processed additives and exporter of speciality rubber chemicals & plastic additives. 6. Mr. S.P Singh, Director, SNG Mercantile Pvt Ltd: Established in 2001 SNG MERCANTILE was the first company in Eastern India to enter the field of Bio Medical Waste Management. Collaborating with Australia SNG supplied, operated and maintained Hospitals waste management equipment in all districts hospitals of West Bengal under a World Bank Funded Project. In 2006, SNG bagged the contract for transportation, treatment and disposal of hospital waste of more than 70% Government Hospitals of Uttar Pradesh under another World Bank Project. It runs 6 Common Treatment facilities in UP to cater to Government and Private Hospitals. SNG is also into consultancy of Solid Waste Management. In collaboration with Canada, it developed the Master Plan for city waste management of Kolkata city. It is now diversifying in Industrial Waste Management. It is entering into contract with mega industrial parks of West Bengal. 7. Mr. Amitesh Singh, CEO of Suman Forwarding Agency Pvt. Ltd. has boosted his firm, taking it from a humble transportation company to emerging as a trend-setter providing customised solutions in the sector of multi-modal transportation and logistics and redefining the logistics industry. He’s speeding forward on the road to entrepreneurial glory. Mr. Singh loves challenges and displays smartness in embracing oppurtunities. In 2000, when Mr. Singh joined forces with his father to kickstart a logistics firm, success was inevitable, given Singh’s entrepreneurial thirst for expansion and excellence. Soaring from a pure transportation firm to a company that specializes in containerised cargo and
allied activities, and rising virtually from scratch to pegging a turnover of Rs. 200 crores in over a decade, SFAPL and Singh have certainly come a very, very long way. 8. Mr. Pankaj Parekh: is Chairman, Eastern Region, of the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Parekh, a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical), belongs to a family of jewellers of several generations. He switched from an Engineering profession to the parental business in Jewellery since 1988. But instead of venturing into local business he started his business of jewellery in exports only. Mr. Parekh is the first person to be elected from Eastern India in the year 1997 in the Central Managing Committee of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council. Since then, he had held several posts in the Central and Regional Committees of the Council, and is the current Chairman of the Eastern Region. Mr. Parekh was a member of the delegation led by the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Jyoti Basu and Shri Somnath Chatterjee, MP and Chairman, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd.(WBIDC) in June 2000 to Israel where the seeds of “Manikanchan”, the Gems & Jewellery Park were sown by him. He was subsequently inducted as a member in the Board of “Manikanchan” and played a key role in its creation. He has also led, or been member of various Gems & Jewellery Industry delegations, organized by the Council to countries e.g. Italy, Latin America, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Middle-East, etc. He was a trade nominee in the Board of BIS MTD 10 (Bureau of Indian Standards) for Hall Marking of precious metal jewellery under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Govt. of India. 9. Mr. Gitesh Biswas, Director, Genesis Advertising Pvt. Ltd.: Born and raised in Kolkata, Gitesh Biswas is a graduate of the illustrious Vivekananda Mission School, 2004 batch. He has also successfully graduated from the Calcutta University, with an Honours degree in Marketing. He began his career with a stint in operations, with highly famed technology giant, IBM. After a period of two-and-a-half years, he began his foray into the creative world of advertising with Autumn Advertising Pvt. Ltd., in Bangalore. From there, he went on to achieve greater heights at L&K Saatchi & Saatchi and Ogilvy Network handling MNCs like RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group & Himalaya Wellness over the next four-and-a-half years. He currently lends his expertise on brand-solutions and market strategy with Genesis Advertising Pvt. Ltd., where he manages multiple national and regional brands.
