Mobilität in IP-basierten Netzen am 13. März (Open Workshop) und 14. März 2012 in München

Call for Contributions Within its series of round tables, the VDE/ITG Section 5.2.4 “Mobility in IP-based Networks” will organize a one day workshop on the topic

Traffic Management for Mobile Networks The workshop will take place at DOCOMO Euro-Labs on March 13th, 2012. We solicit: • •

Technical overview presentations Project presentations

• •

Presentations of results of ongoing research Visionary (possibly provocative) presentations

The success of smart phones and the explosion of the app market led to an enormous increase of data traffic in mobile communication networks. The sheer amount of data traffic on the one hand and the behavior and requirements of the diverse application on the other hand lead to overload situations in all parts of the network, the radio access network, the backhaul, and the core network. New traffic management paradigms are required for handling the continuously growing mobile Internet traffic in particular as media delivery services are expected to increase in popularity and put the traffic demand on the next higher level. The objective of this workshop is to bring stakeholders of this topic from telecom operators, manufacturers, and academia together to discuss the resulting challenges related to system optimization in wireless networks. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to: • Use cases and problem description, measurements • Standardization activities, overview and contributions • Business aspects, new charging models for overload situations • Overload control mechanisms for signaling and user plane • RAN and Core traffic management, coordination and interaction • Traffic offloading (Local break-out, Femto, Inter-RAT, D2D,…) • Service mobility (moving services to the customer) • Device-to-device (D2D) and machine type communication (MTC) • Caching in mobile networks • Explicit Congestion notification (ECN) for mobile networks • Over-the-top services, Application layer adaptation (Skype, Adaptive HTTP Streaming, RTCP, …) Please inform the workshop organizers about your planned contribution by Friday, February 17th, 2012. The number of contributions is limited and assigned on a first come first served basis. The workshop program will be published mid/end of February 2012. Participants should register by email by March 2nd, 2012.
