Convention on the Grant of European Patent (European Patent Convention) Munich, 5 October 1973 Entry into force: 7 October 1977, in accordance with Article 169 thereof: “(1) This Convention shall enter into force three months after the deposit of the last instrument of ratification or accession by six States on whose territory the total number of patent applications filed in 1970 amounted to at least 180,000 for all the said States. (2) Any ratification or accession after the entry into force of this convention shall take effect on the first day of the third months after the deposit of the instrument of ratificaton or accession.“

as amended by: Act of 17 December 1991 Revising Art. 63 of the Convention on the Grant of European Patents, which entered into force on 4 July 1997 in accordance with Article 4 thereof: “The revised text of Article 63 of the European Patent Convention shall enter into force either two years after the ninth Contracting State has deposited its instrument of ratification or accession or on the first day of the third month following the deposit of the instrument of ratification or accession by the last of all Contracting States to take this step, whichever is the earlier.“

as amended by: Act of 29 November 2000 Revising the Convention on the Grant of European Patents which entered into force on 13 December 2007 in accordance with Article 8 thereof: “(1) The revised text of the European Patent Convention shall enter into force two years after the fifteenth Contracting State has deposited its instrument of ratification or accession, or on the first day of the third month following the deposit of the instrument of ratification or accession by the Contracting State taking this step as the last of all the Contracting States, if this takes place earlier. (2) Upon entry into force of the revised text of the Convention, the text valid until that time shall cease to apply.”

Agreement on the application of Article 65 of the European Patent Convention 17 October 2000 Entry into force:

1 May 2008, in accordance with Article 6 thereof: “(1) This Agreement shall enter into force on the first day of the fourth month after the deposit of the last instrument of ratification or accession by eight Contracting States to the European Patent Convention, including the three States in which the most European patents took effect in 1999. (2) Any ratification or accession after the entry into force of this Agreement shall take effect on the first day of the fourth month after the deposit of the instrument of ratification or accession.“

Declaration by Norway, effected 26.09.2014 : “In accordance with Article 1 (2) of the Agreement, Norway declares that the translation requirements provided for in Article 65, paragraph 1, of the European Patent Convention, will be dispensed with if the European Patent has been granted in the English language or translated into that language and supplied under the conditions provided for in Article 65, paragraph 1, of the European Patent Convention. In Accordance with Article 1 (3) of the Agreement, Norway will require that a translation of the claims into the Norwegian language be supplied.”
