Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Music Syllabus Course Approval The syllabus was approved by the Faculty Board of Arts and Social Sciences on 6 March 2014 , and is valid from the Autumn semester of 2014 at Karlstad University. Course Code: MIGIX1 Borderless Musical Encounter, 5.0 ECTS Credits (Gränslöst möte i musik, 5.0 Swedish credit points) Degree Level: Bachelor Progressive Specialisation: G1N (First cycle, has only upper-secondary level entry requirements) Language of Instruction Swedish with some components in English Prerequisites General admission requirements Major Field of Study Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: - actively participate and interact in music-making contexts involving creative challenges, - contribute to a group's artistic expression in a music and dance performance, - identify and describe different musical tools and approaches used in the course seminars to use in further discussions on how these tools and approaches can be used in other musical contexts, and - reflect on and describe their own learning and interpreting process. Content and Form of Instruction The course comprises the following components: - play, song, choir singing, and dance in different musical areas in the form of musical seminars - musical ensemble interplay and communication - different musical tools and approaches used by musicians in play, song, choir singing and dance - reflection on learning and interpreting process - journal writing - rehearsing score and ear-based music - music performance

Instruction is mainly provided in groups. Orchestra, section, dance and choir rehearsals require students to come prepared and know their parts. Reading List

See separate document. Examination Assessment is based on sounding and expressive concert performance and on a written individual hand-in assignment. Grades One of the grades Distinction (VG), Pass (G), or Fail (U) is awarded in the examination of the course. Quality Assurance Follow-up relating to learning conditions and goal-fulfilment takes place both during and upon completion of the course in order to ensure continuous improvement. Course assessment is based on student views and experiences as reported in written course evaluations and/or group discussions. Students will be informed of the result of the evaluation and of the measures to be taken. Course Certificate A course certificate will be provided upon request. Additional Information Students who enrolled before 1 July 2007 will complete their studies in accordance with the requirements of the earlier admission. Upon completion students may request degree and course certificates to be issued under the current ordinance if they meet its requirements. The local regulations for studies at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels at Karlstad University stipulate the obligations and rights of students and staff.
